Tubular Structures IV
26 to 28 June 1991
Delft, The
Netherlands
Proceedings of the “Fourth International Symposium on
Tubular Structures - ISTS4”
The structural hollow section has proved to be
an excellent element for a wide range of applications, e.g.
industrial buildings, towers, masts, jibs, offshore platforms,
barriers, and also for other fields, such as mechanical
equipment, agricultural applications, etc.
Initially, its use was restricted due to the limited
evidence regarding the complicated behaviour of the joints,
but many research programmes have now been carried out
internationally.
As a result of the excellent cooperation between the
members of Subcommission XV-E on “Welded Joints in Tubular
Structures” of the International Institute of Welding (IIW)
and the members of the Comité International pour le
Développement et l’Etude de la Construction Tubulaire
(CIDECT), this fourth symposium has been organised by both
organisations in combination with Delft University of
Technology and TNO Building and Construction Research.
From the 71 Abstracts received, the International Programme
Committee accepted 48 papers for presentation and inclusion in
these Proceedings. The Proceedings are especially
valuable to structural engineers in consulting firms,
steelwork fabrication firms, research institutions and
government departments concerned with tubular
structures.
