Proceedings of the “Fifth International Symposium on
Tubular Structures - ISTS5”
This volume forms the Proceedings of the “Fifth
International Symposium on Tubular Structures (ISTS5)”, held
at Nottingham, UK, in August 1993, which follows earlier
events at Boston (1984), Tokyo (1986), Finland (1989) and
Delft (1991). It brings together contributions from experts in
more than ten countries and presents the state of the art in
applications, research and development of circular and
rectangular hollow section members and joints in tubular
structures.
Tubular structures form an important sector of the
steelwork construction market: they are aesthetically
attractive, and thus frequently chosen by architects, and the
shape of the section both reduces drag forces due to wind and
wave action and is also highly resistant to buckling in
compression.
Topics covered in this work include onshore and offshore
structures, tubular construction in ordinary and prestigious
structures, and developments in member behaviour and
connections. Serviceability, strength conditions, fatigue,
fire and corrosion are also considered. The increasing use of
finite element techniques in the development of design
recommendations for strength and stiffness of joints is
reflected in their extensive discussion.
The book will be valuable to architects, structural
engineers in consulting firms, major corporations, steelwork
fabricating firms, research institutions and government
departments concerned with these
structures. |
